Borrowed Tunes MP3 Policy

MP3s are kept up for approximately 1 week. The purpose of this site is to give people the information they need to make good music purchasing decisions. We believe the least the music industry can do is give people the opportunity to listen to a couple of complete songs at their leisure. We hate "samples" and "snippets". They encourage impatient listening and a straight-to-the-chorus mentality (which isn't always a bad thing, mind you).

We will be happy to comply with any request to remove offending files. Please write us at admin@borrowedtunes.com

All MP3s except those from outside sources are typically encoded using LAME 3.90.3 with --alt-preset standard, the currently accepted 'transparent' file-size-efficient setting. We're very careful about this, and we challenge you to tell the difference between a properly-encoded MP3 and the original - except in some extremely subtle cases like detailed classical music - outside of a sterile listening environment. If you believe in sterile listening environments, you don't belong here.

Here is a great guide to using Exact Audio Copy and LAME to make pristine MP3s. We use Exact Audio Copy to rip our CDs, and we love it.
